Nantucket... there's nothing to do and no time to do it!
Nantucketlilypad.com was originally designed as a website to showcase my family’s home on Lily Street. We thought that giving it a web presence might be a good way to attract a new audience. After spending some time creating this online home for Lily Street, it occurred to me that I have more than 30 years of knowledge to share about Nantucket. Like a village historian, I am full of insider tips about the island, not to mention years of humorous stories of our many, many adventures there.
If you are new to Nantucketlilypad.com, welcome! This site is meant to be entertaining as well as informative. It is my goal to provide snappy posts that can help you plan your next trip by giving you ways to navigate the ferry or choose a terrific spot for a dinner reservation. Maybe you’ll learn something interesting about where to shop, ride your bike, or go to the beach. Perhaps, you’ll spend a few minutes now and then daydreaming about an upcoming trip. In essence, these snippets are an ode to summer memories and are meant to capture all that summer has meant to me for most of my life. Put your brain on autopilot as you live vicariously through the photos, stories, and videos of my family and friends, and imagine what your next Nantucket experience could be like.
Whatever Nantucketlilypad.com is to you, please enjoy it and pass the word along to anyone you know who has ever cherished a special summer place like Nantucket.
Check out “Nantucket Festivities” in the navigation bar at the top of this page to see a decent chunk of my posts. Or visit the other sections listed there.
Imagine blue skies, dazzling sunsets, and gorgeous star gazing in a bright five bedroom home that is within easy walking distance to world class restaurants, shopping, and beaches. The house is on one acre, and abuts the five acre Lily Pond conservation area. Outside living is a wonderful feature of this home, with two decks off the great room. One has seating for eight, and the side deck has a large teak dining table, umbrella, and chairs, with a gas grill. On the lower level is a screened porch overlooking the large yard. Town is a hop, skip and jump, while close by are Childrens’ Beach, Jetties Beach and Steps Beach.
One of last year’s visitors commented that the house had great Nantucket atmosphere as well as the best location on the island.
Another appreciated features including an open kitchen equipped with a stainless steel gas cooktop, DCS convection oven, built in DCS microwave, warming drawer, Bosch dishwasher, SubZero refrigerator, and All Clad cookware. The island provides seating for four and is a wonderful gathering spot for meals, cocktails, or a spirited game of cards.
There are so many ways to get into the spirit of Nantucket even before you arrive.
Begin by reading a travel guide detailing everything that’s not to missed on island – for kids and adults alike.
Read a few spooky “true” Nantucket ghost stories.
Cook your way through all the best of fresh, local foods.
And set the perfect tone for cocktails on the perch with “The Essential Stan Getz.”
Whether you’re wistfully dreaming of an upcoming visit, in the midst of a relaxing stint on Nantucket, or fondly remembering your summer vacation, all of these items can help set an unforgettable island mood.
Check out some of my favorites if you want to feel the essence of Nantucket wash right over you—even if you’re not even there!
