Where the Figawi?

The annual Figawi sailboat race from Hyannis to Nantucket is an occasion for heavy drinking.  Fortunately, the bar is only open on solid land and not aboard the many sailboats participating in the race.  Young, spray-tanned singles looking for love and booze pack up their shortest shorts and largest coolers to head over to the charming and ordinarily peaceful island of Nantucket for a Memorial Day weekend romp that primarily entails high-class, fraternity-styled partying.  Based on all the cocktailing I observed on Nantucket this past Memorial Day, a sturdy liver and bottle of Motrin are probably two “must-haves” for the packing list for this event.

Here is a short clip taken on Sunday afternoon at the downtown, outdoor watering holes Straight Wharf, The Gazebo, and The Tavern.  They were packed to the gills at lunch and alcohol was flowing freely.  Standing nearby and accompanied by a stroller, I was feeling every bit of my age and wondering at what point I transitioned from someone who might have been seated at the bar to a person whose head was beginning to hurt simply from being in such close proximity to so many shots of tequila and Miller Lites.
